Toyota 86 Championship Update from Sam

Round 5 of the Toyota 86 Championship I qualified 11th. Race one was a close race with lots of battles and passing, and I managed to maintain my position. Race two I got a good start off the line, and I was able to make some passes in the opening few laps where I moved forward up into position 9. After a safety car restart, I made another pass to come home in 8th position.

This was a good improvement, and I was looking to move forward again in race three.

A few minutes before I was about to head out the gate the officials gave me a penalty which resulted in being relegated back to last position in race two. This meant that I started the final race of the weekend of the back row. In the opening laps, I made my way up to 10th position before being pushed off the track by a fellow competitor. I put my head down and managed to catch up to about five cars where I got past 4 of them. As I was going for the pass on the 5th car another competitor ran up the back of me and turned me around resulting in damage. I was able to finish the race, even though this was not the result that we had hoped for after some promising racing. I have taken the positives out of races two and three and am looking forward to doing it all again in a few weeks at Hampton Downs.

A few weeks back I attended a customer event at Turners Cars. It was a great night catching up with people who support my racing. I want to thank my sponsors Tony Richards Toyota, Premier Insulation, Turners Cars, Papakura Toyota, Brian Roberts Panel and Paint, New Age Materials, Belair Mitsi, Emilee Jane Photography, Silvester Clark Engineering, WJ Painting Systems Onsite Catering, International Kart supplies, PCI Electrical, Amberley Manufacturing and Tailwind Nutrition.
