Side Hustle

I watched a YouTube video the other day about the new Jaguar Type 01, a car over 5 metres long, 2 metres wide and weighing nearly 3 tonnes. And yet the interior space was cramped and luggage space minimal. A comment under the video read “It will be bought by the sort of person you hope never to meet”. The Suzuki Hustler is the polar opposite of the Jag – small, but roomy, and likely to be driven by someone you’d actually like to meet. And at a fraction of the cost.
Yes, the Jag is fast, and it’s striking. It sure has presence and it will attract attention. It’s also like a reverse tardis – enormous on the outside, small on the inside. Parking it will be a nightmare.
Who will buy it? Crypto currency influencers and guys in sharp suits and expensive watches, probably (and let’s be honest, they’ll have to rent them).
On the other hand the Suzuki Hustler is a Kei car (look it up) so is tiny on the outside but, cleverly, roomy on the inside. It’s not fast. But it does have presence and will attract attention. And parking it couldn’t be easier.
Who will buy it? Someone who isn’t interested in projecting power or influence but who does like to drive something with personality and is quite likely more influential than they realise. Someone who wears casual clothes and no watch, probably.
At the time of writing, nobody can buy the Jaguar, but you can buy the wee Suzuki. It’s a 2017 with 163,500kms on the clock, is easy on one of the most expensive liquids in the world right now, and will cost you a mere $7990 (the Jag will be around $300k).
This Hustler is available from Turners Palmerston North right now. More details here.
