The Ford Falcon may be a thing from the past now, but there will always be a fondness for the Aussie great, especially with a big V8 squeezed under the bonnet. Sure, the lure of the V8 might be slightly dulled by the rising cost of the stuff needed to fuel it, but as a classic driven on weekends to car shows it still makes a lot of sense.

Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) was, as the name suggests, the Prodrive owned performance arm of the company that created the high performance versions of the Falcon. It competed with Holden’s HSV division and both companies produced motorsport inspired road cars that became Aussie and Kiwi icons.

The BA GT was the first FPV creation. They squeezed in an enormous V8 from a truck into a very tight engine bay, added some trick heads and pistons and married it to a manual or automatic gearbox. Of course the manual is the one to get, and the later 6 speed manual being the ultimate version.

And what does the ‘P’ stand for in ‘GT-P’? It stands for ‘Premium’. The GT-P version adds more luxury to the muscle car equation along with bigger Brembo brakes, different sports bucket seats and loads more. It’s the ultimate Boss.

This car was sold new in NZ and has had just three owners and travelled just 91,000kms. It looks amazing in Vixen red and has the 6 speed manual gearbox. These cars are pretty exclusive. Only around 1200 GT-Ps were built with just 289 making it to NZ. Of those only 84 were manual with a smaller number getting the 6 speed unit. Only around 200 GT-Ps got the superior 6 speed in total, so a very small number would’ve made it to NZ.
