The series one E-Type is one of the most desirable classic cars there is. Upon clamping eyes on it for the first time Enzo Ferrari said it was “the most beautiful car ever made”, and you could argue that nothing has changed in the intervening years. This series 1 example looks amazing in red and it could be yours. A few years ago you’d need to shell out real estate money to buy one, but prices have relaxed a bit lately. In 1962 this car’s performance figures were astounding and still look impressive today. The 3.8l straight six produced 265hp and had a top speed of 240kph. It could go from 0-100kph in under 7 seconds and you didn’t look like a rich man having a mid-life crisis driving it. The E-Type is all class and one of the most iconic cars of the 1960s.

This particular car was sold new in Australia before making its way to NZ in 1968. It was extensively restored in 1999 and comes with photographic records and receipts. The current owner has loved the car for the last 13 years but it’s time for a new owner now.

Despite Enzo Ferrari falling head over heels for the E-Type when he first saw it, today it doesn’t command the same money as a Ferrari from the same era, and maybe that has more to do with the direction of each company since then. Pretty much every Ferrari from every era is a desirable supercar today. The same can’t be said for Jaguar. Not that Jaguar haven’t launched some great cars, but there have been some pretty average ones too.

But there’s no argument that the E-Type, especially the series 1, is one of the all-time greats. It’s one of those cars that looks like a work of art even when parked. The sort of car you never tire of looking at.
