One Owner Fairmont

Looking at the brick shaped EA Fairmont, you may be surprised to find out that this was the first Falcon to be designed with the aid of a wind tunnel. Indeed, it is said that Ford spent $700 million  developing this model, so we can maybe assume that the wind tunnel wasn’t a poly-tunnel and desk fan from Bunnings. It also got a new range of OHC engines with fuel injection and more power. The Fairmont was the plusher spec model with electric windows and also cigarette lighters on each of the rear doors, presumably so the kids could smoke without pestering the parents for a light.

The EA range was very successful in Australia and NZ, but was still outsold by the new VN Commodore, although not by much. But like any Falcon/Fairmont before and after, the high attrition rate due to high mileage, rust and depreciation has meant you rarely see them on the roads today.

This car is a rare survivor. Only one owner from new and a very low 106,000kms. There may be others in similar condition, but it can’t be very many. Of course these very appealing details mean it’ll be reflected in the price. This one is being auctioned with a guide price of $11500 - $14000.

This may sound expensive for an old Fairmont, but you’ll be the only one with an incredibly original example of a classic Aussie icon. As they say, they aren’t making them any more. Buy it while you can. More details here.
