The Skyline's the Limit

Nissan Skylines from the late 80s and 90s have become hot property over the years, and their appreciation rates show no signs of diminishing. And this is a problem if you are on a budget below $20k. An R32 or R33 GT-R is way out of sight, and even the lesser turbo models seem a long way off. So where do you start? You have to start somewhere, right? Well this might be the answer. Read on...

If the GTR is the Manhattan Skyline then the R33 GT is probably more like the Wellington Skyline. But remember, we have to start somewhere and on a dark, moonless night both look pretty similar. The GT is the base model and has the smallest engine with the least power, but this example is a coupe and has a manual 5 speed transmission, and that is important in the world of Skylines.

This particular example looks pretty straight but there are a few issues, which you’d expect on a 31yo Skyline with a few kilometres under its belt. That said, it hasn’t been tastelessly modified and driven to within an inch of its life. And that’s quite rare for one of these.

And the best news is the Auction estimate of $13,500 – 15,000. If you can snag it in that range then you will have bought a very well priced R33 manual Skyline Coupe that will keep appreciating.

“The road to GT-R ownership can be long and steep, and the summit may seem far in the distance and the prize hard earned. You must, however, start at the beginning.” That may be a quote from Karate Kid 4, or not. More details here.
