Fashionable and Green?

As a rule, a 1984 Diesel Mitsubishi Pajero doesn’t have much in the way of ‘Green’ credentials. It has a pretty agricultural 2.3l turbocharged diesel engine that can sprint to 100kph in under the time needed to cook a roast dinner, whilst asphyxiating native wildlife in its wake. But it is painted a very fetching shade of minty green, which certainly makes it look friendlier. It’s also back in fashion. Read on...
There has definitely been a resurgence in the popularity of old SUVs and this 1984 Pajero certainly falls into the ‘classic’ category, given its age. 1984 was a staggering 41 years ago and it’s also staggering that this old truck is still with us. It has been treated to an external make over and seems pretty solid. The interior needs a bit of love and there’s some oil leaks to contend with, but it would make a fun rolling restoration or just drive it as it is.
There are fewer and fewer of these once very common offroaders left on the road, and sure, daily driving one today might seem like a big step back into another time, because it is. 1984 was a time when men wore double denim and women wore high-waisted jeans, as they do again today. This means that this Mitsi has lasted a full clothing fashion cycle, which explains why it’s back in fashion.
It is being auctioned by Turners Christchurch. More details here.
