Turners & Make-A-Wish Partnership
Turners and Make-A-Wish have partnered to help critically ill Kiwi children make their wishes come true.
Every year, Make-A-Wish come together in celebrating World Wish Day on April 29th, the anniversary of the first Wish in 1980 which inspired the founding of Make-A-Wish. Currently, there are 281 critically ill New Zealand children who are awaiting their wishes to be granted and we are wanting to raise $500,000 to help Make-A-Wish make some of these wishes come true - and we need your help!
Below are some of the wishes we've fulfilled in partnership with Make-A-Wish this year.
Hannah's bird aviary
Hannah is a courageous young girl who is a true animal lover with many feathered and furry friends. Hannah's wish was to have a bird aviary at her home where she can play with her birds. Turners had the privledge of helping make her dream come true, and the team in Christchurch raised over $6,000 across several fundraising events, as well as volunteering their time and manpower, and helping to source some cool new birds for Hannah to make friends with. Not only were Hannah and her feathered friends stoked for their new home - we're also incredibly proud of how the aviary turned out!
Dylan's RC car track
The Turners team in Hamilton had the blessing of taking part in an awesome and unique wish - a RC car track for Dylan! Dylan is an amazing young boy who loves cars, bikes, and racing. He wished to have a remote controlled car track at home where he can have fun and hone his skills. Turners Hamilton helped to make Dylan's wish come true by donating all the materials and use of heavy machinery for making an amazing track, filled with twists, turns, and jumps, as well as hosting a great opening day with cool cars and good food.
Tript's PS5 racing setup
Tript is a really cool kid who loves video games and fast cars more than anything else and the little fella knows exactly what he wants, and that's to be able to play video games with fast cars in it! The team at Turners Trucks & Machinery Auckland helped to fulfil Tript's wish of having a PS5 with a racing setup by raising funds, and hosted some great events for him along the way including a Cars & Coffee event where Tript got to see a bunch of cool cars with the highlight being Tript being presented with his very own race suit! We've heard it's his favouite thing to wear, and we think he looks every bit a professional racer!
Moriah's sensory garden
Our first wish of 2024 was Moriah's sensory garden. Moriah has heightened senses of sight, sound, and smell, so our teams got to work raising $2,500 to make her wish come true. On a beautiful summer day a bunch of volunteers from the Turners North Shore and Turners Westgate branches in Auckland joined the lovely Make-A-Wish team to volunteer and set up an amazing sensory garden for Moriah to enjoy at her home. Complete with the beautiful scent of flowers, a bubbling water feature, bright colours, and pretty lights, a sensory garden that Moriah will be able to enjoy every day was born!
